Off to OTS - then to Laughlin
2009-03-31 14:23:02
For those of you still starting the application process - know this: I was notified of my class date on 25 March 2009 - almost four months to the day after finding out I made it into OTS.
Now starts the real fun - I have 69 days left to figure out how to get my family from Ramstein AB, Germany to Palm Coast, Florida for the time I'm in OTS. While the Air Force will pay for the trip to Florida while I'm away; all of our belongings will go into storage until we make it to our next duty station - which as of Tuesday I have found out that it should be Laughlin AFB - in Del Rio, TX. Everything in the OTS site says to expect pay problems for the first few weeks of training, so I know the coming months will be interesting to say the least.

Cleared to Fly!
2009-03-17 09:45:51
This is the first entry for my account of my journal through OTS (and hopefully UPT); hopefully this will be helpful to anyone looking to go through the Air Force Officer Training Program, be it through a rated or non-rated board.
On Thursday, March 9th, I finally received my certified flight physical from AETC/SG; which was the final piece of paper I needed to receive my class date to OTS. Because I'm only 24, I didn't complete my flight physical before being accepted to OTS, so when I found out I made OTS in November 2008 I had to go through the medical clearance process before I could get a class date.
The physical itself wasn't anything out of the ordinary; they just check you over and make sure you are an acceptable candidate to fly - a few tests on vision, your heart, hearing, and your teeth (guess you can't have fillings falling out at 30,000 feet or something.) The actual physical took all of one day; it just took 3 months to get it certified through headquarters, which I'm told is actually a reasonable time frame for someone in good health.
Anyway, finally got the clearance, and now am waiting for a class date - I've been hoping for April 23, but I realize that is nothing but a pipe dream and am hoping for June 2009. I'll be posting more on the application process shortly...
